Should Rambus retain Henry Kissinger?

Does Rambus have a long range plan or is Rambus consumed by crisis management?

There are similarities between Rambus and Richard Nixon’s inherited U.S.A. of the late ‘60’s:

Both believe that earlier success translates into future success.
The US feeling the hubris of WWII and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Rambus riding a leading wave of the dotcom run with the development of cutting edge technology.

Both face quagmires.
The US worried about Soviet Union expansion, China’s intentions, and Vietnam.
Rambus discovered jealous JEDEC members, pre-Viagra impotent or poorly defined policies and regulations, politicized government agencies and a glacial legal system.

Both face formable adversaries that fight proxy wars.
The US with the Soviet Union “advising” Vietnam and others in that region.
Rambus with the Three Amigos pushing buttons at JEDEC and perhaps conspiring, establishing connections with the FTC, DOJ and within the legal world.

Both face distractions.
The US had Jane Fonda, John Kerry and inflation.
Rambus has legal proceedings that focus on document retention policies and the DOJ investigation of the DRAM industry slowing down Rambus’ litigation.

Both feel their solutions are best.

David J. Rothkopf in his book Running the World interviewed Jonathan Howe, a military aid to Henry Kissinger. Howe in describing Kissinger's abilities is quoted:

(E)ven when we were in the midst of a frantic crisis – which was very consuming – to be able to sit back and try to figure out what we are trying to do with this, how are we going to come out, and what should we be doing about it rather than moment-to-moment management of the crisis which everybody was involved in.

Nixon had Henry Kissinger whose shuttle diplomacy stopped the bleeding in Vietnam and Kissinger who helped Nixon pull China out of his hat.

Rambus needs a Henry Kissinger to see the big picture and to ask the right questions of the right individuals - and maybe pull something out of his hat.

It is time to spend some money on consultants and lobbyists. Keep the lawyers fat and happy – just give them some help. Please.
