The next frontier for Rambus Inc.?

Reuters reports (4/7/06) that Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and NEC Corp. are in engaging in talks with Texas Instruments Inc. about setting up a joint venture to develop microchips and software used in third-generation (3G) mobile phones based on W-CDMA.

Earlier this year, Nokia and Sanyo Electric Co. announced that they plan to form a global mobile phone joint venture to develop and make cell phones for the CDMA standard, dominant in the United States and popular in parts of Latin America and Asia.
