Sorry about that, Chief
Don Adams, known to the 60's generation as Agent 86 or Maxwell Smart, has died. He was 82 when he died of a lung infection at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Don reportedly had been in poor health since he broke his hip about a year ago.
Agent 86, with the help of Agent 99 - Barbara Feldon - weekly combated the evil agents of KAOS for four seasons on NBC and then a final season (1970) on CBS.
The show spawned a few catch-phrases including:
Would you believe . . .? and
Sorry about that, Chief.
One of my favorite gags was the "Cone of Silence" . . . which only lasted a few episodes.
Fans of the show will remember the long hall with multiple doors that ended with Agent 86 taking an elevator. I am betting that Don pushed the "up" button his last time down the hall.
