Cell seminar - hype and usage

IEEE Computer and Communications Societies of Oregon is offering a free lecture titled Cutting Through Cell's Hype.

This presentation will cover the trade-off's the STI Design Center team made to create a chip with the required processing power, yet could still fit into a cost- and power-sensitive consumer infrastructure. IBM has started to make progress with system vendors finding new applications for the Cell processor beyond the PS3 and recently announced that Mercury Computer Systems will use Cell in unannounced board-level products for radar, sonar, MRI, CT, digital X-ray, and other DSP- and imaging-related fields. The usage of the Cell processor in these applications will also be explored.

The seminar is sponsored by the OGI Center for Professional Development and AZAD.
