Intel announced that James D. Plummer, Dean of the School of Engineering at Stanford University, with a title of John M. Fluke Professor of Electrical Engineering and Frederick Emmons Terman Dean; Professor of Electrical Engineering and, by courtesy, Materials Science and Engineering, has been named to Intel's Board of Directors. Dr. Plummer is one of nine independent directors on the board with eleven total members.

Dr. Plummer has authored or co-authored over 400 publications. He also has his name on several US patents. His recent work has focused on nanoscale silicon devices for logic and memory.

Bios for Dr. Plummer may be read here and here.

Dr. Plummer serves with Dr. Mark Horowitz, Chief Scientist at Rambus, on the Technical Advisory Board of T-RAM Semiconductor, a "fab-less Semiconductor Company, which has developed an innovative process based on TCCT (Thin-Capacitively-Coupled-Thyristor) technology."

An article in the July 14, 1999, issue of the Stanford [Online] Report on the appointment of Dr. Plummer to the the position of Dean of the School of Engineerng reports:

According to Mark A. Horowitz, the professor of electrical engineering who co-chaired the search committee with former Provost Condoleezza Rice, "Jim was on everybody's list. All the members of the committee are quite pleased with the announcement."

Maybe Dr. Plummer will buy some Rambus stock . . .
