Samsung - GDDR3 in 1GB

Samsung announced (6/21/05) that it has commenced mass production of graphic cards with a maximum density of 1GB. The density is achieved by combining sixteen monolithic 512Mb GDDR3s together.

In its announcement, Samsung noted that Market research firm, Mercury Research, predicts that the global graphics DRAM market will increase 43 percent to $1.5 billion (US) in 2005 and exceed $2 billion (US) in 2006.

Rambus has named Samsung (and others) in a suit seeking to damages for infringing Rambus’ patents and to enjoin Samsung from further production of GDDR3.
