Breaking new ground in microprocessor design, Sony, IBM, and Toshiba disclosed some preliminary information on the new Cell processor that the three companies are developing together.He doesn’t believe Cell will find its way into Apple because Apple software would have to be rewritten.
The Cell processor is initially designed for Sony's next-generation PlayStation, but the companies claim the chip and others like it will appear in a wide range of consumer and computer applications.
He doesn’t believe Cell will find its way into cell phones because it would be overkill.
He doesn’t believe Cell will find its way into PC’s. Why? I am not certain, but I believe it is because he believes programming Cell will be a challenge.
He writes:
