According to an article posted at tomsnetoworking.com, Bluetooth is vulnerable to snoops a mile away. The article describes a snooping device built by Flexilis, a wireless think-tank based in Los Angels, called the BlueSniper rifle – with pictures and a parts list - that can scan and attack Bluetooth devices from more than a mile away.
John Hering of Flexilis, says "Our goal is to make the public more aware or wireless security issues and bad policies. Bluetooth is wide open and most people have no idea what can be done to their devices."
