Climate System Computing

The Register reports on the movement to create lower power cooler super computers. A couple snips follow. Head over to the Register for the rest of the story.
Horst Simon, a prominent computer scientist at Berkeley Lab, has renewed work around slotting low power chips into supercomputer class machines.
Simon and other researchers at Berkeley have partnered with low power chip designer Tensilica and Rambus to create a new class of computer that could show dramatic performance per watt gains and aid end computer buyers.
Ramboids will notice Mark Horowitz is involved in the Strawman Design Study.

Mark Horowitz et al. to present paper at SIGGRAPH 2007

Mark Horowitz, Chief Scientist at Rambus Inc. and others from Stanford University will be presenting a paper at SIGGRAPH 2007 in San Diego, California next week.

Veiling Glare in High-Dynamic-Range Imaging
Veiling glare limits the dynamic range that can be captured by high-dynamic-range imaging techniques. This method removes glare using a high-frequency mask to reduce noise and increase dynamic range.

Mark Horowitz in the blogosphere

I’ve also been to Stanford twice where we recruited our friend Zain for the team. Zain is a super bright guy who’s in the middle of his PhD at Stanford under Mark Horowitz, a founder of Rambus. Zain’s hooking us up with a server on the insanely fast stanford network, the original ISP for google! Stanford is an awesome awesome place. . .
