It happened first in 1946

Tony Reichhardt writing for Air & Space
Magazine remembers the first pictures of Earth captured from space on October 24, 1946. A camera was mounted on a V-2 rocket fired by White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. An awesome reflection.

Photograph pictured was taken from V-2 #21, launched on March 7, 1947, took this picture from 101 miles up. The dark area at the upper left is the Gulf of California.
