Ticky tacky (updated)

Found by a reader, different books with similar covers. That is one way to cut costs . . . . Dreamboat is a Signet Novel (Penguin Group) and Chicks Ahoy is Simon Pulse (Simon & Schuster) . . .

Hat tip to Rachel.

Update 11/30/06 - Author's Assistant responds:

Hi,

Thanks for your email. We were alerted to the problem by Lynda Sandoval a long time ago. Gould is published by NAL Books, a division of Penguin USA, and Sandoval is published by Simon Shuster. What's happening is publishers (in this case, the above) are downloading images from the internet for a small fee, without bothering to see whether or not the same image has been used by another publisher, which can be done on the sites where they download. (In the process, they're saving a lot of money by virtually eliminating the art departments.) Needless to say, we were not pleased. The hardcover of Dreamboat came out long before Ms. Sandoval's paperback and ours, and it was too late to do anything about the problem. Hopeflly our agent's discussion with the publishers will help eliminate the problem in the future.

Thanks for letting us know.

All the best,
K. Madden, Assistant to Judith Gould
