Sony Playstation 3 - Price Confusion

It has been said that any press is good press. If that is true, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has had a good week.

In an interview on French radio, George Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe indicated that Sony's next-generation console would cost "around 500 euro [$613], in the range of 499 to 599 euro [$612 to 734]."
Now, Sony is attempting to clarify that estimate, claiming that the figures reported were for a Blu-Ray high definition video player and were in U.S. dollars, not euros.

It is simple - start real high and reduce to simply high and the customer will be more willing. Create buzz and more buzz. In the end, PS3 will sell near Xbox 360 no matter what the cost is to manufacture. Sony will take a bath, but it will be short if the games match the equipment.
