IBM - Power6

FT.com reports that IBM will release information about its Power6 at the International Circuits Conference in San Francisco on Tuesday (2/7/06).

The Power6 processor is reportedly twice as fast as Intel's next generation Itanium chip.

Bernie Myerson, chief technology officer of IBM's Systems and Technology group states:

"It's our belief that this is going to be the fastest computing chip and family in the world for some time.

"A lot of people will be surprised by this. It will cause a lot of companies to go back to the drawing board."
