IBM Cell in blade servers Q3 '06

Cell was not designed just for playing games, so says Jeff Benck, vice-president of development for IBM's BladeCenter server products.

Mr. Benck would know as IBM's first Cell product, "blade" servers are scheduled to appear in this year's third quarter.

Blade servers are thin computer systems that work in groups and can be pulled in and out of a chassis like books on a shelf.

"Think of using a joystick and flying through the body and looking for parasites, cancers, tumours," says Jeff Benck, vice-president of development for IBM's BladeCenter server products. "That's the kind of new application this thing is going to unlock."
The Age picked up a New York Times article. The Age is linked here.

Hat tip to Joe of the Pinehurst Thread for the link.
