Sony to settle Rootkit class action

Sony BMG Entertainment and Electronic Frontier Foundation have reached a tentative agreement in a class action lawsuit over copy protection technology. A federal court hearing in New York City will be held on January 6, 2006, regarding the proposed settlement.

Reportedly, consumers who purchased a CD with the rootkit will receive a clean replacement CD, $7.50 and a free album download or no money and three free downloads. Users of MediaMax software will receive a free download.
