Cell to best Pentium?

Sony semiconductor chief Kenshi Manabe believes that Cell is as good as Intel's Pentium and maybe better. He told an audience of financial analysts the same on December 14.

Mr. Manabe did not specifically identify applications for the Cell processor beyond Sony's Playstation 3. Playstation 3 is expected to reach market during the Spring of 2006 and its anticipated launch will likely consume the near-term production of Cells. It has been estimated that PS3 will rack up sales of 12 million units its first year and total 200 million units in five years. Sony reports that PS2 has sold more than 100 million units.
