Rambus to Intel - We don't need you (right now)

With apologies to the Amazing Carnack:

1) Reuters misquoted or took Rambus CEO Harold Hughes' comment out of context?

2) Mr. Hughes, fell and bumped his head?

3) Mr. Hughes should be muzzled?

4) It is all part of a grand plan hatched out by old buddies?

5) Mr. Hughes is “counting his money” now that the dealing is done in the Spoliation Round - California?

6) Rambus is sooooooooo busy that it really could care less about a license agreement with Intel?

"I have already assumed that the Intel contract is not (going to be) renewed," Hughes said at the Reuters Semiconductors Summit in San Francisco. "It doesn't bother me. We have more business than we can manage right now."

Yikes! I am getting light-headed.

Read the Reuters article here.

The numbers are getting well, more interesting:

Rambus, based in Los Altos, California, has been seeking billions of dollars in royalty payments from the global chip industry over the past decade to cover patents it says are used in standard computer industry chips.
Reportedly, Hynix counsel in closing arguments told Judge Whyte that Rambus sought royalty payments in the low teens for non-compatible IP or IP not RDRAM. I may need to adjust the Treowth Meters as they are humming along at a mere 0.75% (SDRAM) to 3.5% (DDR).

Mr. Hughes has too many friends who are lawyers:

"The last (sic) I wanted to do at my age was manage multiple lawsuits," Hughes said. "But frankly it's something we're becoming pretty good at."
Mr. Hughes is generous:

Hughes said he planned on buying a PlayStation 3 for each of Rambus' 325 employees when the machine launches. Sony plans to launch its new gaming console next spring but has not yet set a date.
