The US DOJ announced that it would be slapping Samsung with a $300 million fine for its role in fixing DRAM prices.

Samsung joins the likes of Infineon and Hynix who pled guilty for the same offense and paid fines of $160 million and $185 million respectively. US based Micron was the first “rat to bat” and escaped a fine, but was a player in the price fixing scheme.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission may soon be investigating Samsung – that according to its Chairman, Kang Chul-kyu who is waiting for the Korea Portable Audio Consortium (KPAC) to file a complaint against Samsung for selling Apple Computer flash memory an estimated 10% below market.

Apple Computer added to Samsung’s woes this week when it announced that it had decided not to partner with Samsung in a $3.8 billion dollar investment in flash memory production. A Reuters story quotes an unnamed official as stating that the “anti-Samsung sentitment had recently deepened among some political and civic groups.”
