The rescue, assessment, cleanup, rebuilding and heartache - think; days, weeks, months, years and forever.
A rescue takes a human touch. A river of well meant money won't rescue one person floating trapped in her attic. Communities across America are sending their skilled in the science of rescue.
Here in Sacramento, the local fishwrap reports that Rick Martinez, chief of the Sacramento Fire District is working 18-hours days out of the Biloxi area in Mississippi- sleeping in a cox in a parking lot. Martinez, a veteran of rescue and recovery campaigns including the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and the 2001 World Trade Center catastrophe, has been in Mississippi since Saturday.
An accurate assessment will take weeks. That is unbearable to a society of mouse-clicking remote-control waiving Americans who want instant answers and gratification.
The cleanup, months.
The rebuilding, years.
The heartache, forever.
I am sorry, but no amount of money will make this disaster go away fast.
The South has been wounded, but She will rise again.

My hat off to you "Donkey". Your thoughts are well intentioned and well taken. You also commented that later - down the line so to speak - the $$ and assistance will be of even more importance as the first 'shock' of the event wears a bit. That is so often the case.
The rescue of even the animals is of utmost importance immediately.
I shall endeavor to assist both now and later with critters and with OUR brothers and sisters.
