Intel recently announced its investment in Clickstar which bills itself as a premium movie service offering first-run films that may be purchased and downloaded pre-DVD. The service is expected to launch in 2006.
Clickstar will be led by former Sony Pictures executive Nizar Allibhoy and investors include Revelations Entertainment - with principals Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary - and Intel.
The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Roger Vakharia, managing director of content alliances at Intel's Content Service Group. Vakharia said that Intel had been involved in developing Clickstar for more than two years.
We want to enable the right platform, we want to enable the right security and we want to enable the right experience. Out of these evangelism efforts come ideas.
Noted at the Investors page at clickstar.com:
Intel's investment in ClickStar is part of its digital home effort to change consumers' experience in the home by delivering the platforms and technologies that power PCs and CE devices and by enabling the new, best online services that bring premium content - including pre-DVD films and artist created content - to enjoy on Intel-based PCs and devices. Intel's digital home technology platforms and ClickStar's exciting new digital entertainment service will give consumers the opportunity to watch first-run films and premium artist content from the comfort of their living rooms.
And you thought Intel was just a bunch of nerdy engineers?
