Sony Playstation 3 - Supercomputer

Is Playstation 3 going to be a game platform, an entertainment center or really a computer? According to Ken Kutaragi, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, PS3 will be an entertainment supercomputer.

It appears that various models of PS3 will be available. At least one variable to be the size of the external hard disk drive (HDD), with both 80GB and 120GB HDD mentioned. This would dwarf the initially standard 20GB to be offered with Xbox 360.

PS3 is likely to have the Linux operating system (OS) pre-installed on the HDD, however, Cell will be able to run multiple OSes.

Ken Kutaragi stated:

For example, if we had an interface where we could control applications using gestures and words using the EyeToy, it would be like Minority Report. Of course, that kind of an evolution will also reflect on games. This will be the first form that [the Cell] will be spread. It can connect a keyboard, and it has all the necessary interfaces. It can run media, and it can run on a network. It's got such an all-around purpose, and it's open.
