AMD - to 50% of the world and beyond . . .

Advanced Micro Devices has ambitions and is not shy about sharing them. In a FAQ section at amd.com AMD reveals that its Personal Internet Communicator (PIC) will provide online (connected) and offline functionality to a whole lot of people.

The PIC contains basic productivity tools (such as a word processor and spreadsheet), and the ability to view images, multimedia files and standard format documents. It also provides Internet browsing, instant messaging and e-mail capabilities, but those features require a service provider.
And will the PIC be coming to a store near you? Apparently, not in the near future, but in the next ten years to 50% of the world.

Q: Will the PIC ever be offered in the US?

A: The US is currently not one of the target markets for the PIC. The device is designed to fulfill AMD's 50x15 initiative of delivering affordable, accessible Internet connectivity and computing capabilities to 50 percent of the world's population by the year 2015.
Stay tuned . . .
