My knowledge of Canadian beer is limited to Moosehead – those green bottles a favorite of a college roommate – and the movie Strange Brew. Reading about Creemore, reminded me of Moosehead, which reminded me of Strange Brew . . . a movie I haven’t seen in 20+/- years.
I Googled and surfed to Amazon and read some customer reviews of Strange Brew:
Jeffrey Jotz writes:
Canadians always seem funnier than us uptight Americans because they can laugh at themselves and their idiosyncracies (sic) without offending any interest group other than uptight Canadians. They have Mike Meyers and the timeless Kids in the Hall for comedy; we have Carrot Top and "Family Guy." That being said, this film is utterly sophomoric. Almost twenty years later, it still keeps me laughing out loud at its absurd plot, silly jokes and barrage of references and inside jokes about Canadian culture.
Todd M. Rohs writes:
I have very fond memories of this movie - it is still entertaining, but not quite the laugh-fest I remember. Maybe I've been jaded by recent gross-out comedies, but pouring beer out of a dirty dog dish doesn't have the effect it once did.Sadly, aging seems to take the fun out of some things . . .
I think I will rent Strange Brew, relive the moment and bore my kids, eh?
