Rick Callahan writing for AP reports that the Chicago-based Popcorn Board wants to reduce the number of “old maids” or unpopped kernels found in the bottom of a bag of popcorn. Researchers have learned that an optimal hull structure allows the necessary pressure to buildup resulting in the kernel exploding.
The Popcorn Board wants to improve their product.
