Cell Processors: Separating Reality From Hype, a report by In-Stat is available for purchase ($2,495).
What will the buyer receive? According to In-Stat’s site . . . “In-depth technical analysis of the Cell processor as well as explores Cell's effect on the game-console market.” (Emphasis added.)
What will Cell’s effect be on the game-console market? Again, from In-Stat . . . "Most of the actual chips in the Cell family are unannounced. The only announced product from the family is the version to be placed in Sony's PlayStation 3" . . . . that potentially leaves a hole in the equation.
How big of a hole? In-Stat suggests . . . “The total combined PlayStation 3, Xbox 2 & Revolution revenue forecast will rise from $1.1 billion in 2005 to $9.4 billion in 2008”. . . out here in Kalifornia, that would be considered a pretty large hole!
Kevin Krewell, In-Stat analyst opins . . . "Some have called Cell an Intel killer, which is completely ridiculous. The only place where the Cell processor can be considered competition for Intel will be where the Sony Next Generation Game Console competes with the Media Center PC."
Yup, Intel, nary a concern about Cell . . . and Michael Jackson is only a little odd . . .
