Arlington, Virginia—President Bush has allowed a member of the Federal Trade Commission to remain on the job nearly seven months after his term ended, and a second commissioner’s term will expire in approximately five months without any public nomination of a replacement, the Voluntary Trade Council said today.Read the rest of the story at the Voluntary Trade Council (VTC) site.
Commissioner Orson Swindle, a Republican, was appointed to the FTC in 1997 by then-President Clinton for a seven-year term that expired on September 25, 2004. Under the Federal Trade Commission Act, Swindle can remain on the job indefinitely until a successor is nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate. The term of Commissioner Thomas B. Leary, also a Republican appointed by President Clinton, will expire this coming September.
