Fifty inches

TI's digital light processor technology has, in a short time, become one of the most popular options for big-screen TV buyers. Samsung Texas Instruments' digital light processor technology makes the picture on a Samsung 46-inch screen. . .

DLP televisions were a tiny minority five years ago. But TI has forged partnerships with Samsung and other manufacturers to lift the technology's profile, and the results have been stunning. . .

TI did confirm, though, that Sony made big gains in the quarter. It's difficult to conclude whether Sony's inroads came at the expense of DLP or of other types of technology, TI spokeswoman Molly Mulloy said. . .

Manufacturers say the day is just around the corner when high-quality rear-projection TVs with screens of 50 inches or will sell for less than $2,000. . .
